1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
To maintain and increase seed of advanced potato breeding selections from the Beltsville Potato Breeding Program. To put into tissue culture and rid of virus said selections.
1b.Approach (from AD-416):
Culture plantlets on various media to induce organogenesis and rooted plantlets. Apply ELISA tests to detect potential latent virus infections. Nodal cuttings will be used to increase plantlets and produce microtubers. Plantlets, microtubers, and minitubers will be planted in the field for seed increases of pathogen-free stocks of advanced clones for further evaluation.
Three USDA bred potato varieties (Amey, Harley Blackwell, Peter Wilcox) and one advanced selection (B1992-106) were maintained in tissue culture. Two advanced selections, B2152-17 and BNC202-7, were entered into tissue culture. Field production of B1992-106 from 2011 was distributed for trialing in the National Chip Processing Trials in 2012. Field production of B1992-106 occurred in 2012. This agreement is a critical link in making high quality seed of advanced selections and recently released varieties from the USDA Potato Breeding Program in Beltsville, MD available to the potato industry for production and utilization.
