Research Project:
INCREASING FRUIT RETENTION AND OVERCOMING LEAF SCORCH AND SCAB OF PECAN TREES
Location: Fruit and Nut Research
|
2009 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
This collaboration seeks to address alternate bearing associated crop losses by evaluating efficacy of two orchard management strategies for improving commercial-scale pecan production. These include increasing fruit-set of pecan trees and reducing crop loss and alternate bearing caused by leaf scorch.
3.Progress Report
Timely treatment of canopy with ReTain results in a reduction of fruit-drop and increase in nutmeat yield without loss of kernel quality. The study is being repeated a second year to: a) verify effects on yield and quality, and b) effects on return crop-load set. MONITORING: Progress was monitored by regular site visits, phone calls, and e-mails.
