Location: Bee Research

2012 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
To develop, design and initiate a “community of practice” for honey bees as an extension website. The National extension Initiative is a USDA-REE Extension Service effort to provide internet-based collaborative environment for information exchange.

1b.Approach (from AD-416):
University of Tennessee will work with extension to develop a "community of practice" for honey bees.

3.Progress Report:

In FY10, a website or “Community of Practice” on honey bees under the "eXtension System" was established and extensively updated in FY 11 and FY 12. The National Extension Initiative is a USDA-REE Extension Service effort to provide an internet-based collaborative environment for information exchange. This website is meant to serve as a conduit for information exchange between scientists working to improve colony health and the beekeepers and growers who use honey bees. The University of Tennessee has extensive extension expertise and has developed materials specific to the Areawide (0500) project to post on the website. Research findings from the Areawide project are placed on this website as a primary means to rapidly communicate research to the end users. It is anticipated that this website, now fully established, will be able to continue even though funding is coming to an end. The website also captures information from other research programs in addition to the ARS Areawide program and thus is an invaluable source of information on bee health. This will serve as the final report on this project.
