Research Project: MAPPING AND DEPLOYMENT OF QTL FOR WHEAT RESISTANCE TO FUSARIUM HEAD BLIGHT (FHB)

Location: Hard Winter Wheat Genetics Research Unit

Project Number: 5430-21000-006-03
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 10, 2008
End Date: Sep 09, 2013

Objective:
The objectives of this cooperative research project are: using genomics tools to 1) identify new QTL for FHB resistance in Asian landraces and U.S. hard winter wheat germplasm from U.S. and 2) transfer and pyramid QTL for FHB resistance from diverse sources to locally adapted cultivars using marker-assisted selection.

Approach:
Use of high throughput molecular marker technologies to identify and isolate desirable genes/QTL from wheat germplasm materials collected from Asia and the southern Great Plains of the USA and to transfer and pyramid these QTL into adapted U.S. hard winter wheat cultivars using marker-assisted backcross to develop hard winter wheat cultivar/germplasm with improved resistance.
