The objective is to provide a database on stream flow in sub watersheds of the Little Washita River Experimental Watershed, and stream flow and water quality of the Fort Cobb Lake Watershed to improve understanding of land climate drivers of hydrologic processes.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Several agricultural reservoirs and streams in the Little Washita River and Fort Cobb Lake watersheds in central Oklahoma will be monitored for water height in the impoundments and stream flow. Measurements are made on a continuous basis. Water quality samples will be collected during high and low slow periods at stream gauging sites in the Fort Cobb watershed. Data are quality processed, analyzed, and archived. Data are used in hydrologic analyses and with environmental and water resource models.
Stream gauging data from the Little Washita River and Ft. Cobb Reservoir watersheds are collected in a joint effort between ARS, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, and the U.S. Geological Survey. The stream gauge data were used to support hydrologic research conducted by our Laboratory staff and others within ARS, as well as state and federal agencies and universities across the country. These data sets are quality controlled and are available to the public by computer access. Additionally, a water quality sampling activity was initiated in 2005 and repeated in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 for the purpose of developing equations relating stream flow to a suite of water quality variables. A joint USGS and ARS report was prepared for peer review.
The ADODR monitored progress of the project through personal meetings, telephone conversations, email, and review of published reports.
