Project Type: Memorandum of Understanding

Start Date: Feb 14, 2008
End Date: Dec 31, 2012

Objective:
The planning process is expected to result in recommendations for specific areas of collaboration some examples of which may include but are not limited to: a) a regional research laboratory evaluating hive health and productivity, b) one or two regional demonstration and/or teaching laboratories, c) increased regional collaboration in field trials of newly developed bee health technologies, d) a regional bee health delivery program utilizing print and electronic media delivery systems, and e) development of rapid response initiatives to address time critical problems such as Africanized Honey Bee and Colony Collapse Disorder.

Approach:
The Parties recognize that cooperation is a matter of working together toward common goals of mutual interest, not merely cooperative financing or sharing of research and education activities. Each party agrees to contribute to planning, conducting, and implementing research and education projects as described in this agreement and to furnish such facilities and funds for particular projects as agreed to within the parameters of this MOU. It is also recognized that successful cooperation occurs only through mutual understanding and efficient administration of the cooperative programs. Nothing in this broad understanding is to be construed as interfering in any way with the basic responsibilities, authorities, and policies of any of the Parties’ members for independent action.
