DEVELOPMENT OF ERIOPHYID MITES FOR BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF WEEDS
2009 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
The objective of this cooperative research project is to develop methods to use eriophyid mites for biological control of weeds.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
We will conduct research on the taxonomy, behavior and ecology of eriophyid mites associated with noxious weeds such as yellow starthistle and Russian thistle. Documents NFCA with University of Bari, Italy
We multiplied our colony of the eriophyid mites in anticipation of making future releases for biological control of yellow starthistle. We monitored populations of yellow starthistle at three locations to provide baseline data in anticipation of making future releases of the eriophyid mites.
The ADODR monitored this project through emails and phone calls.
