Research Project:
ASSOCIATION GENETICS TO IDENTIFY AND ENHANCE OAT AND BARLEY GERMPLASM FOR NUTRITIONAL FUNCTION
Location: Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research
|
2012 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Identify genes controlling beta glucan content in oat.
1b.Approach (from AD-416):
Association mapping in elite varieties.
3.Progress Report:
We produced oats in the greenhouse and field in order to finish the last cycle of selection for beta-glucan content from the Uniform Oat Performance nursery germplasm. Oat beta glucan content was evaluated using a small scale, high throughput method developed in the course of this agreement. Varieties with approximately 1.5 fold higher than normal beta glucan content were identified and deposited in the National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) repositories. This is the last year of this agreement.
