Research Project:
ASSOCIATION GENETICS TO IDENTIFY AND ENHANCE OAT AND BARLEY GERMPLASM FOR NUTRITIONAL FUNCTION
Location: Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research
|
2009 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
Identify genes controlling beta glucan content in oat.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Association mapping in elite varieties.
3.Progress Report
We carried out two sets of agronomic evaluations of oat varieties, one with elite varieties and one with more diverse germplasm. Varieties in these trials were genotyped and we carried out a preliminary round association mapping for beta glucan content using public information about beta glucan content of these varieties. Several loci putatively involved in controlling beta glucan content were identified.
