2008 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
The overall objective of this agreement is to collaborate in conducting clinical studies to investigate the relationship between food components and health.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Dietary intervention studies will be conducted using a range of food components to determine the relationship between diet and health. Clinical studies will be conducted at the Center with support from the collaborator in obtaining approval for the study protocols and implementing the study designs.
3.Progress Report
This agreement serves to combine the expertise of ARS in conducting nutrition studies with those of Medstar Research Institute in protecting human subjects and the medical aspects of nutrition research. Scientists at Medstar and ARS have collaborated in conducting studies to understand the relationship between food components and health, including studies of protein, carbohydrates, and phytonutrients. Activities and progress of this Agreement were monitored through meetings at Medstar facilities and through frequent telephone calls.
