2012 Annual Report
The former AAFC-RB is ARS’ counterpart government research agency in Canada and a partner in PROCINORTE, a trilateral research coordinating group of the US, Canada and Mexico hosted by the International Institute for Cooperative Agriculture (IICA). Current task forces under PROCINORTE are animal health, plant health, genetic resources, and tropical fruits. ARS had a large number of self reported researcher-to-researcher collaborations with Canadian partners in the period from Oct 1, 2010 to Sep 30, 2011(most recent compiled reporting period) with approximately 35 of 118 Canada collaborations existing between ARS and AAFC-RB researchers.
Bilateral science and research cooperation is well established between USDA/ARS and AAFC-RB. ARS is collaborating with 13 of the 19 AAFC-RB research centers on a variety of topics such as potato cropping systems, plum pests, Sclerotinia in soybean, soybean seed quality, training of curators on germplasm management software, invasive and non-invasive weeds, lettuce pathogens, plant modeling systems, dry bean disease, fruit fly control, sunflower cold tolerance, quality and safety of imported fruits, pesticide residues, forage grasses, bee health, health benefits from oats, and mycotoxins.
