Research Project: COTTON TESTING AND GINNING SERVICES FOR THE COTTON INDUSTRY

Location: Cotton Ginning Laboratory(Stoneville, MS)

2011 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
The objective of this cooperative research project is to provide ginning and testing services to the cotton industry.

1b.Approach (from AD-416)
The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) will provide small-scale and large-scale ginning services to the cotton industry to expand and expedite public and private research programs. Scientific evaluation of ginning characteristics and fiber properties will be provided to establish optimum cotton production practices and ginning procedures.

3.Progress Report

This project was created to fund sample collection, standard and experimental gin processing of cotton, sample analysis, and data analysis for projects important to the industry, apart from strictly ARS research. During the past year experimental cotton varieties were ginned and analyzed for commercial seed companies. Selected cotton bale bagging materials have been studied and plans have been made to work further with additional bale bagging materials under this agreement. Work is underway to be able to evaluate high-speed roller ginning with appropriate lint cleaning and use of a newer design of lint cleaner. The ADODR personally oversees the data collection and expenditures under this agreement.
