Research Project: GENE DISCOVERY AND ANALYSIS FOR CONDITIONAL LETHALITY OF TEPHRITID PEST SPECIES

Location: Insect Behavior and Biocontrol Research Unit

Project Number: 6615-22000-021-09
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Dec 01, 2005
End Date: Sep 30, 2010

Objective:
Identification and isolation of genes that can be used to improve biological control strategies.

Approach:
Genes involved in programmed cell death will be induced by gamma-irradiation of Caribbean fruit fly embryos and isolated by differential screening protocols. Candidate genes will be tested for use in biological control strategies based on conditional lethality.
