Research Project: CONSERVATION EFFECTS ASSESSMENT PROJECT - OXFORD (2)

Location: Watershed Physical Processes Research Unit

2005 Annual Report

4d.Progress report.
This project serves to document research conducted under a Reimbursable Agreement between ARS and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Additional details of research can be found in the report for the parent project 6408-13000-012-00D, Integrated Analysis of Landscape Processes for the Management of Agricultural Watersheds. The database of the Goodwin Creek Experimental Watershed (GCEW), a benchmark watershed of the Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP), has been updated and is being expanded with assistance from NRCS personnel. The database will include samples of sediment from stream flow at strategic locations, information on sources of sediment, more complete information on land use, and information on sediment from gully and bendway processes. This will allow the improved data base to be used to more fully evaluate the effect of conservation practices on the movement of water, sediment, nutrients, and other contaminants through the watershed. The data base will be a key component for the evaluation of specific management techniques and be used to evaluate ARS watershed simulation models (AnnAGNPS and SWAT) on the GCEW.
