2005 Annual Report
4d.Progress report.
This report serves to document research conducted under a reimbursable agreement between ARS and Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). Additional details of research can be found in the report for the parent research project 6408-12130-012-00D, Process, Control, and Prediction of Erosion and Runoff on Upland Areas in Agricultural Watersheds. Research on the development and testing of erosion control practices is being instituted to evaluate of the effectiveness of NRCS recommended conservation practices on sub-watersheds of the Yalobusha River as part of our CEAP activities. An agreement was established in 2004 with the Mississippi State University Extension Service for collecting and organizing the historical data available from USGS, NRCS, FSA, and CoE. An individual, was hired in 2005 and progress has been made in compiling data from Corps of Engineers (CoE), Farm Service Agency (FSA), and US Geological Survey (USGS). A research plan has been developed that expands on-going research in place at Little Topashaw Creek. Equipment has been purchased for the new research, however, instrumentation has been hindered by lack of technical expertise within the UEP unit. A Hydrologic Technician position for this assignment was advertised in 2005 but an adequate candidate has not been identified at present.
