Research Interests

I have studied crop responses to global environmental changes for over 20 years.  My initial work on this topic was to summarize the potential reductions in rates of water loss from leaves of all the major U.S. crop species in response to increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration.  More recent work has been to investigate reasons for the wide range in growth stimulation by elevated carbon dioxide among and especially within crop species.  Current work investigates the role of elevated carbon dioxide concentration in altering the responses of crops to high temperature and drought stress.
