Dr. Yokoyama (Ph.D. Entomology & Nutrition minor, University of California at Berkeley) joined the ARS in 1984, and specializes in the development of quarantine strategies to control arthropods of regulatory importance in commodities exported to foreign countries or shipped within the U.S.  Her current research involves elucidation of the biological factors that limit olive fruit fly populations, implementation of a biological control program using imported parasitoids, and application of bait stations for control of the pest in olives.  Dr. Yokoyama conducts research to improve quarantine strategies for exported hay including novel fumigation methods and cultural control practices to mitigate Hessian fly and other pests of regulatory concern in hay exports.  Dr. Yokoyama’s work has resulted in new markets or enhanced existing markets with U. S. trade partners for commodities produced in the western states including hay and stone fruits.  She has been honored in science as a Fellow of the Entomological Society of America. Dr. Yokoyama is the first-author of 52 peer-reviewed publications, and 78 other publications including co-authored peer-reviewed papers, proceeding papers, and technical reports, and has made over 200 presentations.
