Here Dr. Jenkins, a Research Microbiologist, has taken a water sample from a strategically placed sampling site at Howden Lake in the Mississippi Delta. He will take such water samples as well as sediment samples from designated lakes in the Delta to the National Sedimentation Lab where he will use various molecular methods of DNA analysis to characterize microbial communities and relate their salient characteristics to agriculture practices in the lakes' watersheds.
