Natha Booth

Research Microbiologist

Dr. Booth is a Research Microbiologist working on the development of catfish with improved disease resistance. Each year over 100 full-sib families are evaluated for resistance to diseases of economic importance to the catfish industry. Gene and protein expression, as well as immune-associated cell function, are then compared in the most susceptible and resistant families in order to determine the mechanisms responsible for disease resistance. Ultimately, this information, together with that obtained from nutrition, growth, and reproduction studies, will contribute to the development of genetically improved catfish lines.
