Susan McCormick has worked as a chemist at ARS in Peoria since 1987.  After receiving her B.S. in Chemistry and Biology from Illinois State University and Ph.D. in Phytochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, she conducted postgraduate research at the University of British Columbia and with ARS in New Orleans.  Her research has focused on plant and fungal natural products.  Currently, Dr. McCormick is a member of a team of scientists conducting research on novel methods for controlling Fusarium Head blight and trichothecene mycotoxin contamination of grain.  The goals of her research are to identify novel genes that modify, detoxify or otherwise provide resistance to mycotoxins.  She uses organic and analytical chemistry methods to address these objectives.
