Biography and Research

Dr. Jingyuan (James) Xu has been a Research Physical Scientist at NCAUR, USDA-ARS, Peoria, IL since 1998. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, his M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology, Beijing, China, and his Ph.D. in Biophysics and Biophysical Chemistry from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Xu conducted post doctoral research on the physical properties of biopolymers. Dr. Xu is a member of a team of scientists currently conducting research on developing value-added, nano-sized biomaterials, such as nano-cellulose and nano-lignin, from agricultural wastes. Dr. Xu’s research combines Biochemistry, Physical, Analytical, and Organic chemistries, Biophysics, and Materials science.
