Research Physical Scientist

Education:

Ph.D. Civil Engineering, University of Maryland 2001

M.S. Civil Engineering, University of Maryland 1998

B.S. Civil Engineering, University of Maryland 1996

M.S. Geology, University of Michigan 1978

B.S. Geology & Physics, Tufts University 1976

Research Interests:

My research is focused on the use of remote and proximal sensing to help monitor and manage scarce water resources over agricultural lands, with emphasis on multispectral thermal infrared observations. Objectives for this research include the development of tools and methodologies for assessing crop water use over irrigated lands, the integration of remote sensing data with differing spatial resolutions, temporal assimilation of land surface temperature observations, and development of proximal sensing techniques for High-Throughput-Phenotyping (HTP). Research in each of these areas will help estimate the spatial distribution of evapotranspiration, identify crop water stress, improve the effectiveness of irrigation practices in arid-lands and advance development of heat and drought tolerant crop variieties.
