Beneficial insect parasitoids may be used to reduce pest insect populations in stored products.  In the central valley of California, several common parasitoids of postharvest dried fruit and nut insects are active throughout the year.  In developing the information necessary to allow processors to use these parasitoids as a management tool, we have studied natural populations in a culled fig warehouse. Our current studies examine the prevalence of Habrobracon hebetor, Venturia canescens and Mesostenus gracilis in central valley orchards and vineyards.
