Dr. Adalberto A. Pérez de León joined the USDA-ARS in 2009 after a decade working in the private sector with different companies where he held positions of increasing responsibility ranging from discovery research to product development. He serves as Director of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) San Joaquin Valley Agricultural Sciences Center in Parlier, California since 2020. In this role Dr. Pérez de León oversees the conduct of innovative research to increase productivity, quality, and marketability of crops by solving agricultural problems in an environmentally sustainable manner. Before that, he was Director of the USDA-ARS Knipling-Bushland U.S. Livestock Insects Research Laboratory in Kerrville, Texas for eleven years. Dr. Pérez de León received a medical degree as veterinary doctor from Universidad Veracruzana in Mexico, a Master of Science in Entomology from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, and a Ph.D. in Entomology working on arthropod-borne animal diseases from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY. He is passionate about practicing what he learned from his mentors to develop international scientific talent focused on delivering technological solutions for stakeholders.
