2005 April Grazing Animal Health presentation and FAMACHA training

Dr. Kenneth Turner will be conducting a Grazing Animal Health presentation and FAMACHA training to County Extension Agents from West Virginia. The April 21st training will begin at 12:30 PM at the WV State Fair Ground in Fairlea, WV. FAMACHA is an eyelid evaluation system developed in South Africa for sheep and goats to assess the degree of anemia and determine when dewormers (anthelmintics) should be administered to control the barberpole worm. The overall FAMACHA program is being coordinated by Dr. Ray Kaplan from the University of Georgia Veterinary College and has a goal to do Smart Drenching of goat and sheep to slow the drug resistance of gastro-intestinal parasites because of the limited number of dewormers on the market for effective control of gastro-intestinal parasites, especially in meat goats.
