June 12, 2006 -- Two new extraordinary bonsai specimens are now on display in the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum. The two Japanese white pines spent two years in quarantine to be certain they are disease- and pest-free before being released for public display. The two trees were donated to the U.S. National Arboretum by Mr. and Mrs. Diazo Iwasaki, who are leading bonsai enthusiasts in Japan and long-time supporters of the Museum. The informal upright styled pine is approximately 120 years old while the second younger tree is styled as a formal upright tree. Both trees are valuable additions to the collection of Japanese bonsai at the Arboretum in Washington, D.C. This collection is the finest and oldest collection of Japanese bonsai outside of Japan and is open for viewing every day from 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
