Event:
Public Field Day, Pullman, Washington
Date:
July 07, 2005
Description:
ARS and Washington State University will offer field tours and celebrate research milestones at the university-owned Spillman Agronomy Farm south of Pullman.
At the field day, growers and others can take field tours that will showcase some results of the long-term scientific collaboration by ARS and Washington State University for improving barley, dry peas, chickpea and lentil crops.
The field day celebrates two important anniversaries: the 100th anniversary of the first ARS-WSU cooperative wheat release—which has been followed by more than 90 more wheat releases—and the 50th anniversary of the purchase of the Spillman Agronomy Farm by WSU.
Featured speaker will be Robert E. Allan, retired ARS wheat breeder, who did research at Spillman Farm beginning in 1957. The farm is located at 1452 Johnson Rd. south of Pullman. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and field tours start at 8:15 a.m. For details, see this WSU news release.
