Tropical Crop and Commodity Protection Unit

The Pacific Basin Agricultural Research Center (PBARC) has been a world leader in tephritid fruit fly research over the last 40 years. It has provided clients with user-friendly, economical, and environmentally acceptable technologies for field detection, monitoring and suppression of field populations, as well as developed methods that have permitted quarantine security in the export of fruits and vegetables susceptible to fruit fly infestation. Most of the area-wide technologies used worldwide in combating tropical fruit flies were pioneered by PBARC scientists and cooperators.
