wasps to the rescue

Cartoon of wasp attacking aphid, with text: 'The Aphelinus near paramali wasp is so tiny you can hardly see it.'

The female wasp can pump one of her eggs into an unlucky aphid, then find another aphid and do it again, perhaps inserting as many as 25 of her eggs into 25 different aphids in a single day. The wasp egg hatches into a worm-like larva that eats the insides of the aphid, killing it.The female wasp produces about 120 eggs in her lifetime.
