Cartoon fungus with eyes, nose, and mouth

Hi, folks. Fungi--that's plural for fungus--are a group of either single, or multicelled organisms that belong to the kingdom Mycota. Some fungi, like mushrooms, are called saprophytes because they generally grow on dead organic material, like rotting logs.

Me? I'm a type of parasitic fungus called Syngliocladium tetanopsis. Instead of rotting logs, I prefer growing only on a certain insect--the sugar beet root maggot.

One trait we fungi share is tough pods called spores that help us survive harsh conditions. These spores also help us spread ourselves in water and air, for example.
