To determine how long bacteria remain viable in a high-tunnel production system—popular with Mid-Atlantic growers of leafy greens—scientists harvest spinach leaves from plants inside the aluminum rings. These plants had been inoculated with a harmless strain of bacteria. From left to right are technician Rishi Banerjee, microbiologist Pat Millner, technician Russell Reynnells, and support scientist Sara Reynolds.
