Technicians Allan Knopf and Sharette Evans collect water samples from a pond that supplies irrigation water to Pacana Park in Maricopa, Arizona. In the laboratory, the pond-water samples are filtered to isolate microbes. DNA extracted from the filters is then screened for the presence of human-specific Bacteroides molecular markers.
