A large carton nest (composed of soil, saliva and feces) built by the
Formosan subterranean termite. The termites from this enormous colony inflicted
much damage to the building before they were detected. This roughly 8-by-1 foot
nest housed several million individuals. It is not uncommon to find such carton
nests in walls or ceilings as well as in floors.
