ARS scientists at the Animal Disease Research Unit in Pullman, Washington, are using a new live-animal test for scrapie in goats and studying genes for resistance to the disease. Here, microbiologist Katherine O’Rourke looks over twin goats born to a naturally scrapie-infected mother. The twins have different genotypes that will be studied for disease susceptibility and resistance.
