Contact Insecticides

Applying insecticidal dust to fire ant mound. Kill fire ants by direct contact. Chemical treatments are often used as an individual mound treatment. The chemical is applied only to the mound reducing cost and pesticide impact on the environment. Fire ant chemical controls are available in three formulations: dusts, granulars, and drenches.

Dusts

  • Acephate (examples include Ortho Ant Stop Fire Ant Killer®, Orthene Surrender®)

  • Deltamethrin (an example is Bengal Ultra Dust Fire Ant Killer®)
Granulars

  • Deltamethrin (examples include Eliminator Fire Ant Killer Dust®, Vikor Fire Ant Killer®)

  • Fipronil (an example is Over N'Out®)
Drenches

  • Citrus oil (examples include Citrex®, Gardenville®)

  • Esfenvalerate (an example is Bug B Gone®)

  • Permethrin (examples include Spectracide 3X®, Spectracide Pro®)
