Purpose and Expected Outcomes

Purpose

To mark the contributions and achievements of ARS over the last 50 years, understand the unique role research plays in the agricultural, natural resources, and technology arenas, and to build excitement and vision within the scientific ranks as we look to the future of ARS research.

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the meeting we expect participants to:

  • Strengthen our understanding of the core character of ARS and recognize the tradition of ARS excellence in research, technology and information transfer;
  • Realize the biggest challenges facing agriculture in the next 50 years, and identify how ARS will lead the search for solutions and share these with our customers, stakeholders, and partners; and
  • Enrich and build lasting, mentoring, professional, and personal relationships across and within the ARS ranks of scientists, program leaders, and senior managers, encouraging collaboration and cooperation across our national network.
