Dr. Jensen has been very active in
professional societies and international organizations. He served as Soil and Water
Director
(1980-82) and Technical Vice President (1983-86) of the American Society of Agricultural
Engineers; member of the Executive Committee of the Irrigation and Drainage Division
(1973-77) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and Chairman (1976-77),
and member of the ASCE Water Requirements Committee from 1965 to the present.
He
served on several work groups and committees of the International Commission on Irrigation
and Drainage (ICID) from 1975 to 1987 and as President of ICID (1984-87). He has been
a member of the U.S. Committee of ICID (USCID) since 1960, and served as a member of the its
Executive Committee (1973-78) and as its Chairman in 1978. He was the U.S. Agency for
International Development Liaison Officer to the International Irrigation Management Institute
in Sri Lanka from 1990 to 1995. During his career, he traveled extensively in the U.S.
and internationally.
As a consultant, he also worked for the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the UN, Florida Atlantic University, the California Imperial Irrigation
District, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's regional office in Boulder City, Nevada, the
State of Wyoming, and the Solano County Water District in California.
He has published
some 120-research papers in conference proceedings and peer-reviewed journals, and prepared
numerous special study reports as a consultant.
Dr. Jensen has received numerous awards including induction into the ARS-USDA Science
Hall of Fame (2000). He was elected honorary member of ASCE (1988), awarded a Doctor of
Science, Honoris Causa, degree at NDSU (1988). He received a USDA Distinguished
Service Award (1983), and the Irrigation Association Man of the Year Award, (1983).
Dr. Jensen and his wife reside in Fort Collins, Colorado where he plays golf several
times a week during the season. They have three children, seven grandchildren and
three great grandchildren.
