Before joining iRobot, Mr. Barrett served as a technical director at Draper Labs, a research scientist at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab, and as the chief research engineer at MIT's Ocean Engineering Testing Tank (where he created MIT's RoboTuna). In addition he founded and directed both Cambridge Precision Instruments and the Cambridge branch of Walt Disney Imagineering.

In the execution of these positions, he has spent more than 20 years working in the robotics field and has developed a wide spectrum of robots that walk, hop, roll, swim, fly, learn, talk, act, entertain, or a broad range of commercial, governmental and entertainment-industry customers.
