Dr. Albert Rango received his education at Pennsylvania State University where he received a B.S. (1965) and an M.S. (1966) in Meteorology and at Colorado State University where he received a Ph.D. (1969) in Watershed Management. Dr. Rango was a hydrologist and Head of the Hydrological Sciences Branch at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center from 1972-1983. From 1983 to 1994 he was Lab Chief of the Hydrology Laboratory at the Agricultural Research Service, Beltsville, MD. He became a Research Hydrologist, Supergrade ST at the Jornada Experimental Range in 2001. He has been the principal investigator for the following programs: NASA Demonstration Test Project on the Operational Applications of Satellite Snow Cover Observations, 1975-1979; NASA Demonstration Test Project on Water Management and Control, 1977-1980; Joint Japanese-U.S. Research Project on Snowmelt Runoff Modeling, Snowpack Properties Measurement, and Evapotranspiration, 1981-1982; CRADA, Regional Watershed Modeling Under Conditions of Change, ARS-Electric Power Research Institute, 1994-1997; and the JORNEX Project, Evaluation of Remote Sensing Applications for Rangeland Management and Rangeland Ecosystem Health, 1994-present. Dr. Rango has also served as President of the American Water Resources Association, 1986, the Western Snow Conference, 1990-1992, and the International Commission on Remote Sensing, 1997-2005. He was selected as the Agricultural Research Service's Distinguished Senior Research Scientist of the Year in 2000. Dr. Rango has published over 300 scientific papers.
