Simon: Release: Atlantis

UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE                 AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH SERVICE                     WASHINGTON, D.C. 20250                               and   THE FLORIDA AND CALIFORNIA AGRICULTURAL EXPERIMENT STATIONS                RELEASE OF HYBRID CARROT ATLANTIS The United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service and the California and Florida Agricultural Experiment Stations announce the release of fresh-market carrot ATLANTIS tested under pedigree (B4367xB36402)xB3180.  It is adapted for production in both organic and mineral soils where common open-pollinated varieties Imperator 58 and HiColor 9 are being replaced by hybrids Gold Pak, A Plus, Orlando Gold and Golden State. Trials suggest that ATLANTIS is acceptable as a commercial variety and should be competitive with most available varieties on the basis of appearance and early maturity (see Table 1). The inbreds used in the female parent (B4367xB36402) were released earlier and they are in quantity production as parents in Orlando Gold.  For breeder requests we will supply seed recently produced under screen cages.  Components for a production share can be supplied.  Hybrid seed for trial requested before May 1, 1987 should be addressed to C.E.
