The Pasture Systems and Watershed Management Research Unit (PSWMRU) operates Mahantango Creek Experimental Watershed, and its experimental subwatershed called WE-38, as outdoor experimental laboratories to conduct research on agricultural management and hydrologic processes that control nutrient loss from nonpoint sources.

Bryant and others (2011) , provide an overview of the research history of Mahantango Creek Experimental Watershed and WE-38. Long-term data records are provided through the database delivery system called STEWARDS: Sustaining the Earth's Watersheds, Agricultural Research Data System and as described below.
