National Potato Late Blight Trials

Breeding for resistance to late blight is a major priority in all publicly funded U.S. potato breeding programs. The National Late Blight Trials were begun in 1996 with funding from the ARS-State Partnership Potato Program to evaluate promising new potato varieties and advanced selections from breeding programs for late blight resistance over a wide range of environments, thus potentially exposing these new varieties and advanced selections to diverse isolates of the pathogen. The purposes of these trials are to develop information on the relative resistance of these new varieties and advanced selections to late blight and to determine the stability of resistance/susceptibility to late blight in these clones.
