Insecticide Detoxification
headline bar

Entomologists at the USDA are investigating the biochemical and molecular mechanisms involved in xenobiotic (e.g., insecticides) catabolism in fire ants. Understanding these mechanisms may aid in the development of new approaches to pest control. Several detoxification enzymes have been purified, characterized, cloned and sequenced from the imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta.
