Study Volunteer Responsibilities

What do I have to do if I volunteer for a nutrition study?

Study responsibilities differ depending on the nature of each study. Short term studies usually range from 2-4 weeks while long term studies can last up to 16 weeks, or 4 months.

Most of the studies we conduct at FCHL are controlled feeding studies, where volunteers are required to eat all the food that is provided and only the food that is provided and nothing else. Volunteers are usually expected to come into the center at the BHNRC on weekdays for breakfast and dinner, while lunch will be packed out, along with weekend foods.

Some studies will have a few blood draws and occasional urine collections. Depending on the particular study, some studies will have a week break between the different treatment periods while volunteers are under no food restrictions.
