Stochastic Simulation of Storm Precipitation
headline bar
Long records of short-time increment data are generally not available across the U.S. where such data are often needed for design and modeling. Most precipitation data are available only for 24-hr periods with no information on the intensity variations of precipitation during the 24-hr periods. A model for synthesizing the sort-time increment using storms and not 24-hr periods is being developed and tested. The model simulate the occurrence of a storm to the nearest minute, storm duration, storm depth, and within-storm intensity variation. Initial tests on the model show that the model simulates well storm occurrence and storm depth and duration. Many studies have been conducted on the robustness of elements of the model to errors, regionality, and parameter estimation.
