 Dennis Tilley - Engineering Technician

Dennis is an engineering technician and operates the CGAHR research grain elevator. His main focus on research includes: (1) incidence and spread of insects in grain elevator facilities, (2) using heat as a cost effective sanitation pre-treatment method to control insects in on-farm grain storage bins. Other areas of research interests include improved aeration control strategies, identity preserved grain handling, and reducing dust emissions from grain handling operations.

Education

  •  2013 Ph.D.in Department of Grain Science and Entomology Certificate, Kansas State University
  • 2005 – M.S. Agriculture Economics, Kansas State University
  • 1993 – B.S. Milling Science, Kansas State University
  • 1987 – B.S. Agriculture Economics, Kansas State University

Experience

·          1999 – Present – Engineering Technician, USDA-ARS, Grain Marketing and Production Research Center, Manhattan, KS.  Responsible for planning and conducting research projects in a 55,000 bushel capacity experimental grain elevator. Areas of research include incidence and spread of insects from grain handling facilities, the use of heat treatment as a method to control insects in on-farm grain storage bins, improved aeration control strategies, identity preserved grain handling, and reducing dust emissions from grain handling operations.

·          1994 – 1998 – ConAgra, Inc., Grain Processing Company, Omaha, NE. Managed and operated a 2 million bushel capacity wheat elevator supplying a 9,200 cwt flour mill.
