Dan Nonneman

Dr. Nonneman’s primary focus is to identify genetic variation and map genes that are relevant to swine production and to determine their function and expression as it relates to pork production. This involves identifying and evaluating genetic markers for association with quantitative trait loci (QTL) that contribute to the variance of growth, meat quality and reproductive efficiency of swine. His specific objectives are to 1) increase genetic marker density in chromosomal regions affecting economically important traits in pigs, 2) identify and map positional candidate genes with potential influence on these targeted traits, 3) characterize genetic variation among and within livestock populations and associate genetic markers with economically relevant traits and 4) evaluate gene function and expression of candidate genes as it relates to phenotype.
