Topic/Title:                "Understanding Interactions Between Long-Term Genetic Selection of the Host and its Gut Microbiome in Chickens"


Speaker:                     Dr. Yan Zhang, Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, Virginia Tech


Dr. Yan Zhang obtained a Ph.D. in Biological Science from the China Agricultural University in 1996 and M.S. of Computer Science from Southern Polytechnic State University in 2001. In 1997, he joined the Medical College of Georgia as a junior research faculty.  He joined Virginia Bioinformatics Institute in 2005 as software evaluator focusing for bioinformatics software evaluation and testing. In November of 2006, he was promoted to a Bioinformatics Scientist. From then, he has collaborated with biologists and has been involved in analyses of data generated by next generation sequencing and other high-throughput applications. Collaborations have resulted in more than 10 papers that were published on top-ranked journals including Blood, Journal of immunology, and Virology Journal. Recently, Dr. Zhang collaborated with Dr. Paul Siegel on the project of “Long-Term Genetic Selection Affects Gut Microbiota in Chicken”.
