Topic/Title:                “How can microbial ecology help poultry microbiology and

                                      veterinary research?”

Speaker:                    

 

Dr. Brian Oakley, Research Microbiologist in the Poultry Microbiological Safety Research Unit in Athens, GA.

 

Dr. Brian Oakley received a B.A. in East Asian Studies from the University of Vermont in 1990 after studying Japanese at UC Berkeley in summer 1988 and 1989.   Dr. Oakley received a M.S. degree in 1998 and a Ph.D. in 2003 in Plant and Microbial Ecology from the University of Washington in Seattle and is currently employed with ARS as a Research Microbiologist in the Poultry Microbiological Safety Research Unit in Athens, GA.  Dr. Oakley combines bioinformatics and molecular microbiology to study various aspects of poultry microbial ecology.  The current focus of his research is the poultry G-I microbiome and its relationships to food safety, infectious disease, and poultry nutrition.
