Changes at GPRG

The last two months have been very busy with the transition of duties as we prepare to say farewell to Craig Ford and Bryon Hand.  They both had an instrumental role to play in the daily operations of the Greenhouse Production Research Group (GPRG) team.  However, they have decided to move on and in both instances closer to their “roots” in Washington and Pennsylvania respectively.

Craig started working with GPRG in 2009, upon completion of his bachelor’s degree at Central Washington University.  Over the years he has conducted many trials with hydroponics, growing substrates, and in the field.  He has transferred to Mandan, North Dakota to work with the USDA-ARS Northern Great Plains Research Lab as a biological science technician.  Bryon has been working with the unit since 2005 following completion of his Masters degree in Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh.   He was responsible for the information technology tasks and best for his contribution with the award winning Virtual Grower software program. He accepted a position in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania with the Department of Defense as a software developer.  Craig and Bryon’s last day was March 15th and April 12th, respectively.  Both will be greatly missed by the entire GPRG team and we extend to them our best wishes in their careers.

We also would like to use this opportunity to welcome Sujin Kim to GPRG.  Sujin has been a volunteer with our group for the past seven months.  She comes to us with a Masters degree in plant pathology and expertise in molecular techniques.  She has worked and will continue to work in support of our SCA with the University of Toledo on development of an antibody-based assay for detecting nutrient deficiency in plants prior to symptom expression.  We are extremely pleased to have Sujin as a part of the team and we hope her time here will be a significant contribution to her career endeavors.
